Black and White Pictures
In our Black and White gallery, we’ve gathered black and white pictures along with old-fashioned sepia toned images. Black and white photography is perfect for when you want to emphasize the lights and shadows in a scene instead of the colors, or to draw attention to unique shapes. All our black and white and sepia photos are available as gifts or stock images.

Black And White Landscape With Portland Head LightBlack and White Portland Head Light - Cape Elizabeth is the home of the Portland Head Light. This grey scale image captures the Portland Head lighthouse at sunset. A longer exposure was used to create the blurred effect on the receding waves.
A second lighthouse can be seen far off in the background, marking another dangerous sandbar for sailors.
This black and white image of the Portland Head Light is also available in a color version on the Shetzer's stock image site.

Famous Maroon Bells In ColoradoThe Maroon Bells near Aspen, CO, might be one of America’s most photographed landscapes — but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to see them a new way.
When we saw Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak reflected in the still surface of Maroon Lake, we knew we had to take an infrared shot. Call it proof that no two people will see this stunning Colorado vista quite the same way!

Historic Crystal Mill In ColoradoThis historic site outside of the ghost town of Crystal, CO, used to be called the Sheep Mountain Power House. It used the power of the Crystal River to generate compressed air, which workers in the nearby silver mines used to power their tools.
Of course, it’s also lovely in color, but we think black and white perfectly conveys the stark beauty of this iconic fragment of the Old West.

Denali In Black And WhiteIt is rare that Denali is out for viewing as only 30% of visitors to Denali National Park see the mountain. After many attempts, I was fortunate enough to not only see it on a clear day, but to capture a perfect refection of the "Great One" as the sun painted it orange. The reflection pond near the end of the park road serves as a perfect location to capture not one but two images of the magnificent peak.

Horsehead Nebula In Black And WhiteThe Horsehead nebula of Orion is aptly named as it resembles a horse's head and neck when viewed from Earth, making this one of the most recognizable nebulae in the sky. Known as a dark nebula since the high concentrations of dust block out background light.
Also referred to as Barnard 33, after American astronomer Edward Emerson Barnard the person credited with first discovering this nebula. This cosmic feature is about 1,500 light years from Earth and rests just below Orion's belt in the night sky.
Astrophotography from skywatching session during photo workshop.

Cross On The Bovine In Swiss MountainsCross on the Bovine - High in the Swiss Mountains, this cross was perched in the Bovine where cows with the traditional Swiss bells grazed. You could hear the cows from miles away with the deep ring of their bells. We were lucky that the rain cleared while hiking the Haute Route to enjoy the beautiful peaks of the Swiss Alps.
