Mountain Pictures
In this gallery, you’ll find pictures of mountain landscapes, including red-rock deserts, forested hills, and snow-capped peaks. These photos were taken all over North America and beyond, and include scenes from the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Denali (Mt. McKinley) National Park in Alaska, the wilderness of Iceland, and more. These mountain pictures also portray wildlife like bears and bald eagles, and celestial phenomena like double rainbows and the Aurora Borealis (northern lights).

Alaskan Brown Bear FishingA big bear fishing in a shallow Alaska lake. This Alaskan brown bear and her cub are searching these waters for razor clams, an integral part of the diet of a bear. Once they have found clams, the bear attacks the mollusk by prying the shell open using its claws.

Chilkoot Lake Near Haines AlaskaJust after sunrise, Chilkoot Lake was as still as a mirror. I snapped this photograph after noticing how perfectly the water reflected the landscape and the clouds.
The name “Chilkoot” means “Big Fish” in the language of the native Tlingit people.

Double Rainbow Over Colorado National MonumentWhile driving along the scenic Rim Rock drive in Colorado National Monument, we looked in the rear view mirror to see a spectacular double rainbow over the red cliffs. We immediately pulled over to the side and setup our tripods on the road to capture the beautiful colors in the cool crisp fall air. What a way for mother nature to reward us after a morning of stormy weather.

Denali Mountain With ReflectionIt is rare that Denali is out for viewing as only 30% of visitors to Denali National Park see the mountain. After many attempts, I was fortunate enough to not only see it on a clear day, but to capture a perfect refection of the "Great One" as the sun painted it orange. The reflection pond near the end of the park road serves as a perfect location to capture not one but two images of the magnificent peak.

Eldred Rock Lighthouse In Front Of A MountainThis majestic lighthouse in front of a mountain is the Eldred Rock Lighthouse in Haines, Alaska.
On the journey from Juneau to Haines, Alaska, the Alaskan Marine Highway System ferry passes the Eldred Rock Light. This lighthouse was built in 1906. Due to the gold rush of Skagway, the Lynn Canal had four manned lighthouses to guide ships coming to this valuable port.
The Eldred Rock Lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Sunset At Cathedral Peaks In AlaskaCathedral Mountain rises over the Chilkat River near Haines, Alaska. At sunset, the sun’s rays shone over the mountain, creating this beautiful scene.
It’s not clear where the name of the mountain comes from, but it wouldn’t be surprising to learn that an early explorer saw this same sunset and thought of the light through a cathedral’s stained glass.

Brown Bears In Front Of A MountainA bear takes its kid for a hike to a nearby Alaskan mountain. Alaska, with its wide-open spaces, is the perfect habitat for brown bears. One male brown bear can claim a territory as large as 1600 square miles! The territorial behavior of these Alaskan animals means that young cubs cannot remain with their mothers once they reach adulthood.
