One bald eagle screeching at another eagle

A bald eagle defend its catch from another bald eagle. The eagle on the shore is guarding the dead salmon visible in between the birds. The bald eagle screeches to show its dominance and discourage the bird in the water from attempting to steal food.

This sort of posturing is a common behavior when bald eagles gather. This photograph was taken at one of the largest gatherings of bald eagles which occurs every year: when the salmon begin migrating upstream, the eagles congregate at the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve in Alaska. This wonderful gathering provides wildlife photographers an embarrassment of subjects.
