Costa Rican bird photo of Magnificent hummingbird inflight

Bird photo of male Magnificent hummingbird inflight. Once called Rivoli’s hummingbirds, in honor of the Duke of Rivoli, the male of the species is adorned with an iridescent plumage bestowing its new namesake. This action closeup bird photo shows the belly, neck, and beak of this magnificent avian. Dining on a pinkish forest flower, this bird has evolved specifically to harvest nectar and eat insects. While hovering this image shows the bird’s full wingspan of nearly 7 inches. This is one of the larger Talamanca hummingbird species.
