Two Bare Throated Tiger Herons in Tortuguero National Park

Two bare-throated tiger herons hold a conference in Costa Rica’s Tortuguero National Park. These herons, mostly found in Mexico and Central America, have distinctive black caps, blue-gray cheeks, and white (or “bare” throats.

It’s possible these two are engaged in courtship, but it’s hard to know for sure, since the bare-throated tiger heron’s mating behaviors are not yet well-documented.
