Join the adventure of a lifetime as we travel to Egypt to witness and photograph one of the greatest spectacles on earth, a total solar eclipse. The 2027 Egypt eclipse is being called the “Eclipse of the Century” due to its impressive length, and Egypt’s renown clear skies.

The 2027 Egyptian solar eclipse will be the longest total solar eclipse in over 100 years, with a maximum totality duration exceeding 6 minutes. The next total solar eclipse this long and accessible on land will not occur until the year 2114. (I am not waiting that long; I’m going to Egypt in 2027!)

We are pleased to offer two different types of trips so whether you want photography guidance or merely observe this beautiful spectacle, you can join us.

We have found the perfect location on the Red Sea, in a National Park, far from the pollution, high rise hotels and thousands of people in Luxor. The Red Sea in Hamata offers many activities, beautiful private beaches with turquoise water, and cooler temperatures.

We are so excited to offer this unique workshop as we have had so many requests for a Solar Eclipse Photography Workshop over the years. As many of you know, Matt’s hobby is eclipse photography and deep sky astro photography, therefore Egypt is the perfect setting to experience this wonder of nature!

The Eclipse of the Century

Egypt 2027 is considered the “Greatest Eclipse of the Century” occurring on August 2, 2027 due to the length of totality which exceeds 6 minutes, and Egypt’s reknown clear skies.

Solar Eclipse Photo Tour and Workshop

Join us in observing and photographing the phases of the eclipse. The moments just before and after totality, where the moon fully obscures the sun, creates a “diamond ring” effect pictured here. The corona will be visible during totality.

Baily’s beads are the remaining slices of sunlight piercing through the lunar topography. Mountains, valleys, and craters on the lunar limb afford this unique astral view.

The diamond ring effect is where the last Baily’s bead presents before totality, and the first Baily’s bead is shown after totality. In the center of the image is totality. Here the corona of the sun is showcased as a swirling luminous aura emanating from our astral neighbor.

Notice how the moon is more visible during totality. This is from sunlight reflecting off the Earth casting photons onto the moon, creating an Earth glow on the moon. A spectacular celestial event to witness during our astrophotography session.

We will offer two different options for this trip, a Photographic Workshop and a Tour.

Solar Eclipse Photo Tour

Private Bungalows and blue skies.

Photographic Workshop

A photographic workshop for those wanting to learn more about photographing solar eclipses.

We will practice eclipse photography each day prior to the eclipse (the process) and learn techniques for the correct settings, post processing, and even working with a dedicated solar telescope.

Practice makes perfect, and we are going to do everything we can to prepare you for perfect photographs of this amazing event.

Tour

We will also offer a tour version for guests who wish to join in on the fun and excitement of the eclipse without the photographic workshop aspects, thus at a reduced cost.

Enjoy all the area has to offer, relax on the beach, go snorkle, join the parties and then marvel at the eclipse.

Not many organizations offer “Photography Workshops” teaching you the camera settings to achieve your desired results. Each day we will have an in-classroom discussion followed by practicing outside for the big event.

This way, when the 6 minutes and 12 seconds of totality comes, you will be ready and prepared.

What to do with your images?

Eclipse images are unique and require specialized post-processing especially regarding the corona, the sun’s wispy, white outer atmosphere that becomes visible during a total solar eclipse when the moon blocks the sun’s bright face. We will teach you the processes to pull out this detail to display the corona at its fullest.

Egypt Solar Eclipse Photo Tour

Time-lapse sun images of the 2017 solar eclipse. An image every 5 minutes for 3 hours, this composite photo showcases the entire celestial event in full. Showing partial eclipse, diamond rings, and totality with solar corona. Astral photography expeditions like this allow us to bring to life the dynamic cosmic dance between the sun, moon, and Earth. As the moon bites into the sun, the total solar eclipse event begins. The diamond ring effect and totality are seen in the center of the photo.

This skywatching opportunity brought an estimated 215 million Americans to turn their gaze to the heavens. 88% of our US population, or twice the viewership of the Super Bowl, observed this astronomical phenomenon.

Solar Eclipse Photo Workshop

Clear skies and beautiful torquoise water await

Learn how to construct a collage with Photoshop and how to bring multiple images into one scene to display the Diamond Rings, Baily’s beads and totality with earth glow into one amazing image building a lasting memory of the event (sample above).

The workshop attendees will learn how to use a dedicated Solar Scope and mount.

We will be bringing our Lunt 80mm Solar Scope which is dedicated for detailed solar observations and imaging.

It features an 80mm aperture, which provides excellent solar detail, and is equipped with dual hydrogen-alpha filters allowing users to observe solar phenomena such as prominences, filaments, and sunspots in stunning detail.

Everyone will have time to capture images of the sun with this specialized tool, and we will teach you how to process the raw data into a stunning image.

Six Minutes of Darkness to Witness the Longest Solar Eclipse in 100 years

The longest solar eclipse in the next 100 years occurs on August 2, 2027. It will be a total eclipse visible across Egypt, lasting over 6 minutes in our location, making it one of the longest total solar eclipses in the 21st century.

THE SITE — HAMATA, EGYPT

We have chosen a remote site on the Red Sea, directly in the path of the 2027 Egypt Total Solar Eclipse. This site was chosen for many reasons over other options in Egypt:

Eclipse Photography Tour

You never know what you will see walking through the site

  • Eclipse duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes and 6 minutes and 12 seconds of totality.
  • Private\dedicated space for our group. We have an enormous area reserved so everyone can spread out providing lots of room to setup cameras and telescopes. This is what where are here for and one of the main benefits of this site!
  • Private Bungalows with A/C. The site is separated into the lodging side (Bungalows) and the beach side. Set up your camera/telescope just feet from your room if you like or in the middle of the courtyard.
  • Cooler tempertures than Luxor. While Luxor averages temperatures of 106°F (41°C) in August, this area averages 95°F (35°C) degrees. While it is still hot, it is much cooler than the inland sites due to the proximity of Red Sea.
  • On site restaurant with A/C and beachside bar with all meals included.
  • Indoor workshop meeeting area with A/C.
  • Beautiful beach and crystal clear turquoise water. Relax on the beach side in the gated private beach. Safety is our focus and no street venders here.
  • Inside a National Reserve. Enjoy a walk amoungst the mangroves.
  • Many included activies to do while we wait for the big event such as Snorkling, Dolphin Tours and 4×4 Treks.
  • Dark Skies at night. See the Milky Way with your eyes.
  • Backup Power Generation. The site has 4 generators to make sure we have power.
  • 24 hour gated security.
  • Great excuse to stick around after the eclipe. Go scuba diving, explore ancient ruins, kiteboard or spend some time on the Nile after the crowds leave.

Egypt Solar Eclipse Photography Tour

The corona during a solar eclipse refers to the Sun’s outer atmosphere, which is made up of extremely hot plasma. It appears as a luminous, halo-like structure around the Sun during the totality phase of a solar eclipse when the Moon completely covers the Sun’s surface (photosphere). The corona is much hotter than the Sun’s surface, with temperatures reaching millions of degrees Celsius. It can be observed as wispy streamers and rays extending outward, often showcasing beautiful structures. The corona is typically hidden by the bright light of the Sun, however during a total eclipse the darkness allows photographers to capture beautiful images of it.

Egypt Solar Eclipse Photo Tour

Solar eclipse composite image showcasing phases of diamond rings to reaching totality. The red prominences also featured in this captivating solar eclipse photo are really ejections from the sun that appear as flames rushing forth from our nearest star. Extending outward from the corona, these gaseous explosions may be present for weeks to months looping out into space for hundreds of thousands of miles.

These prominences are mostly embraced within the corona by the magnetic fields generated from the sun’s internal dynamo. Baily’s beads form the diamond ring effect as sunlight creeps through the lunar limb of mountains and valleys as the moon slowly obscures our sun.

SOLAR TELESCOPE INSTRUCTION — INCLUDED IN THE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Solar Imaging

Sol imaged with a Lunt 80mm double stack Hydrogen-alpha filter system

Learn to use a dedicated Solar Telescope and tracking system during the trip. The process is very different than normal imaging due to the poor seeing the sun produces. To combat this issue, we capture video frames, so we can quickly capture thousands of images as the mount tracks the sun. Then in processing, we keep the good frames, and stack them.

It is a fun process and an addictive hobby that you can do in the middle of the day. There are even services that alert you when there is increased solar activity.

The Lunt 80mm Solar Scope is a specialized telescope designed for observing the Sun in the Hydrogen-alpha wavelength.

It offers detailed views of solar features like prominences, sunspots, and filaments, providing a vivid and high-contrast image of the Sun’s surface.

It incorporates high-quality optical components and a built-in etalon filter that allows for fine tuning of the observed wavelength, ensuring sharp and clear solar images while maintaining safety standards by blocking harmful wavelengths. Adjustable tuning mechanisms that help users locate and observe specific solar features with precision.

OPTIONAL HISTORIC EGYPT EXTENSIONs — (NOT INCLUDED)

Egypt Solar Eclipse History
If you’re thinking about staying on in Egypt after the eclipse, please reach out to Sylvia at Envision Luxury Travel ASAP. Here is some information on offerings that she can provide. Egypt Extensions Information Sheet

She is a deeply experienced traveler and photography enthusiast who can assist you individually or in small groups with post-trip extension options.

Nile cruise options range from shorter sailings (about 3–7 days) between Luxor and Aswan to longer itineraries (around 10–15 days) that begin and end in Cairo and include the pyramids, the Egyptian Museum, and extended time on the river without constantly packing and unpacking. Experience the Nile’s timeless calm and direct access to some of the most important sites in Egypt — the temples of Karnak and Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, Philae, Kom Ombo, Edfu, and more.

If you want the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, and the new Grand Egyptian Museum, we can add a flight—or a comfortable overnight train—to Cairo with hotel, and private guided touring.

Because travelers from around the world are converging in Egypt for the eclipse, Nile cruise cabins and select hotel space in early August 2027 are already extremely limited.

If you’re interested in a post-eclipse cruise or a land-based stay, please contact Sylvia at sylvia.arndt@envisionluxurytravel.com with your party size ASAP so she can secure the best available options for you.
